Monika Wildenburg and Lidija Schrage will take you, in this exhibition, on their tour of thoughts.
Lidija SchrageBorn in the Netherlands, she translates these thoughts through her raw, direct photographic artwork of multi-memory layered images. She blows up the memory and shifts the perspective by using large sheets of delicate fabric, or carton and limewash paint, in small boxes or larger photo prints. What do I see? The work currently on display was shot primarily in Cape Verde.
Monika WildenburgBorn in Germany, she gives the visitor an almost intimate glimpse into her “looking back” process. Using three-dimensional objects and paintings, she shows moments of reliving old thoughts, emotional agony, and life-changing moments.
Beware: it’s also a fact that your memory is fading, details are slipping away, scenes losing their brightness or no longer exist. Distortions might creep in, and events drop out entirely or become overlaid — both in terms of colours and emotions.
Monika’s and Lidija’s secret wish is that you, the visitor, discover how differently you and others might see, feel and remember the main message in the work. Let us know. Have an inspiring tour.

The exhibition is held at República 14, a cultural centre housed in a nineteenth-century building in the heart of Portugal. The space brings together visual art, music and performance under one roof.
